As toddlers grow and develop, play dates become more than a way to keep infants and toddlers in one place to be watched over. It becomes a time for children to exercise their communication and social skills. Children’s toys provide something that can be played with by two or more children. It gives the children something in common to play with or work at. Children’s toys appeal to a range of skill levels, however it is advised to err on the lower age range when it comes to safety, if the group of children have mixed ages.
Artistic outlets for children, such as coloring with crayon, or molding with colored plasticine, might appear to be an individual activity but is something that groups of children can communicate and influence one another in the making of, and share in the finished artwork. Playhouses and ball games are more obviously group toys, in which children can spend hours of enjoyable playtime.
