A toy can become an instant classic, by appealing to more than one generation, but since most toys are marketed towards children, it more often is the case that a toy has stood the test of time. A toy as an item can be sturdy enough to last more than a lifetime. More often, however, it is the simple design of a toy that keeps it constantly in demand, and inspires modern upgrades and varieties. Activity toys such as skipping ropes and spinning tops have this enduring simplicity, and so do games such as jackstones or checkers. Toys that are considered classics by only one or two generations, usually most popular during the decade that it was first released, can be considered retro classics. Pogo Sticks, Pogs, or Slinkys can be considered classic toys because of this. Other classic toys can be several generations older, considered vintage or even antiques.
