Baby Song
A baby song is a genre of childrens song generally sung to babies or very young children. Baby songs are often in minor keys, though not always. Baby songs are found throughout the world in a wide variety of forms, though the common thread is their purpose. They are frequently sung to babies to help them go to sleep or calm them down. Baby songs and lullabies are essentially the same genre. Many baby songs are also nursery rhyme songs and have a repetitive tune plus a plethora of rhyme words. The topic of baby songs are usually asking the baby to go to sleep such as in “Hush, Little Baby” in which the mother offers her baby increasingly impressive presents in return for being quiet. However as with many baby songs, the song ends by reassuring the baby by saying that he or she is either the “sweetest baby in town” or the “prettiest baby in the world,” depending on which version is being sung.
